Cozumel-Scuba Diving
San Juan Reef This is an exceptional dive for experienced divers. You must be
granted permission by the harbor master to dive this site due to it's strong
currents. Gray reef sharks are often seen around the San Juan Reef. But one
of the most awesome sights is the natural amphitheater called Pino's Bowl.
Palancar. Probably Cozumel's most popular reef with depths ranging from 6 to 37 meters (20 to122 feet). It has some
spectacular walls, caverns, incredible marine life in the shallow areas and impressive abysses with depths of nearly 3000 ft
that will put your endurance to the test and let your imagination run wild.
Cozumel Mexico has been considered an extrodinary place to scuba dive, mainly due to its incredible abundance of marine life.
The crystal blue, warm waters of Cozumel's are filled with seemingly endless schools of brightly colored fish, as well as eels,
sponges and manta rays. The reef system is the second largest in the world, starting at Isla Mujeres running along the coast to
Costa Rica. Cozumel's 25 reefs are protected by the National Reef Marine Park. These reefs can accommodate all experience
levels of divers, from the calm waters for novice divers, to the faster currents and deeper wall dives for the more experienced
divers.
*****Personal Favorite Scuba Diving Location*****
|
San Francisco.
Located on the southern
part of the island. One
of the main attractions at
this site is a vertical wall
encased with coral and
large, yellow,
tube-shaped sponges.
Manta Rays can often
be found on this dive.
Santa Rosa. This a great dive at 50 to 80 feet. This dive has some caves that
have large sponges and fans. There are some unpredictable currents that can
get quite strong, so it is recommended that the diver have experience.
Yucab This is one of the many drift dives off Cozumel. Because of the
currents the sand tends to be a bit more stirred up so the visibility is not as
good as other dive sites- only around 65-70 ft visibility. But the immense
color, lobster, arrow crabs, banded coral shrimp, archways and massive
overhangs are well worth the lessened visibility. This is an underwater
photographers haven.
